Zelensky invited Putin to meet in the Donbas

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky recorded a video message in which he invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to “meet anywhere in the Ukrainian Donbas, where there is a war.”

Zelensky appealed to the citizens of Ukraine. He said that a large number of Russian troops are concentrated near the country’s borders.

– Officially, Russia calls this an exercise. Unofficially, the whole world calls such things blackmail. Do we care? Yes. Do Ukraine and its international partners demand to withdraw troops from our borders? Yes. After all, the Russian Federation constantly repeats that it wants peace, but at the same time creates all the prerequisites for escalation. Or is it logical? No. But this is unexpected? No. Does this mean that escalation is inevitable? No. Does Ukraine want war? No. Is she ready for it? Yes. Will Ukraine stop fighting for peace through diplomatic means? Never. Will Ukraine defend itself in case of something? Always, ” Zelensky said.

He urged not to give in to emotions and critically evaluate the information that comes from different sites.

— Do we need to be vigilant today?” Yes. Do we need to be afraid? No. Because Ukraine-2021 is very different from Ukraine-2014,” he said and noted that the authorities “understand all possible scenarios and know what they will do in response to any development of the situation.”

Zelensky noted “the strong support of international partners.”

— I spoke with the leaders of the United States, France, Germany, Great Britain, Turkey, with the President of the Council of Europe and the Secretary-General of NATO. They, like all other partners, are on our side. They clearly see the true motives of Russia. They are ready to support us financially. We are ready to impose more and more tough sanctions and adopt tough resolutions. This is right, necessary, and Ukraine is sincerely grateful for all this. At the same time, our citizens really need to understand what else the world is ready for.

Separately, Zelensky addressed “his northern neighbor.” He said that in the last two days today, at meetings of the Normandy Four advisers and the security subgroup in the trilateral contact group, the restoration of the full ceasefire regime was discussed, and a proposal was made to meet on the line of demarcation to see and understand the situation as accurately as possible.

— What do I understand? I go there every month. Mr. Putin! I am ready to go even further and offer you to meet anywhere in the Ukrainian Donbas, where there is a war,” Zelensky said.
