Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi will stop using “Mi” in the name of its new products. This was announced on Tuesday by an official representative of the company.
“Starting from the third quarter of 2021, the Mi product line will be renamed Xiaomi. This change will make the global presence of our brand uniform and reduce the gap in the perception of the brand and its products,” the company’s representative is quoted as saying by XDA Developers.
The Chinese manufacturer will produce gadgets under two names – Xiaomi and Redmi. Under the Xiaomi logo, flagship luxury products will be produced, and under the Redmi logo, products are available to a wider audience, particularly young people. “The agreement on the name of the product series -Xiaomi and Redmi – will also eventually apply to our ecosystem and Internet of Things products,” a Xiaomi representative said
The Chinese company Xiaomi in June 2021, for the first time, became the world leader in smartphone sales. According to the analytical agency Counterpoint Research, its share of sales in the global market was 17.1%. In second place was South Korean Samsung with a share of 15.7%, in third place – the American company Apple with 14.3%.
