Xiaomi explains why Mi 11 with 120Hz display runs at 60Hz

Xiaomi developers continue to have problems with MIUI firmware. Recently, users have complained about overheating and a decrease in the performance of the Xiaomi Mi 11 flagships, and now they demand to solve the problem with the screen refresh rate.

According to the owners of Mi 11, although the display of the smartphone received a refresh rate of 120 Hz, it works at 60 Hz, even if the maximum frequency is set to 120 Hz in the settings. The latest stable MIUI version includes 120Hz but displays 60Hz.

The MIUI team explains that this is not a bug. This is because most current video playback sources are 30 Hz / 60 Hz. If you enable 120Hz for these videos, the quality and visual experience will still not improve. At the same time, the screen will consume more power unnecessarily.

And to balance the experience and power consumption, Xiaomi had to set the limit to 60Hz in this scenario. But this only works when playing video with a frequency of 30 Hz / 60 Hz.

In addition, MIUI developers have promised to release an update with bug fixes in the near future for smartphones Mi 11, Mi 11 Ultra, Mi 11 Lite, Mi 10 Ultra, Mi 10T Pro, Redmi Note 10 Pro, Redmi Note 9S, which after updating to MIUI 12.5 stopped responding to touching the display.
