GENEVA – The spread of the new coronavirus in the world has become a pandemic, said the Director-General of the world health organization Tedros Adhanom Gebreyesus at a briefing in Geneva.
“In the coming days and weeks, we expect the number of cases, deaths and the number of countries affected to increase. We have come to an assessment that COVID19 can be characterized as a pandemic,” he said.
A pandemic is an unusually strong epidemic characterized by the spread of an infectious disease throughout the country, the territory of neighboring States, and sometimes many countries of the world.

As of March 11, the total number of new coronavirus infections in the world was 118 thousand people in 114 countries.
