As of Tuesday morning, there were 712 confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in the United States, and 27 people had died. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institutes of health, announced this at a White House briefing.
Fauci warned that by this evening, the number of sick Americans would increase. “The question is, what are we going to do about it?”- he stressed.
According to Fauci, there are a number of measures that should be implemented to “interfere with the natural course” of the outbreak in order to avoid infecting more people and reduce the number of deaths.
“We would like the country to understand.. that we can’t do what we did a few months ago. It doesn’t matter if your state doesn’t have a single case or a single case,” Fauci said, advising Americans to visit the newly created site coronavirus.gov to familiarize yourself with the precautions to be followed at work, at home, and in public institutions.
All residents of the country should observe these precautions, said Fauci, regardless of whether there is an outbreak in a particular area.
Americans living in areas where there are already coronavirus outbreaks should be particularly careful about these measures. In this regard, Fauci mentioned the States of Washington, California, New York and Florida, where the largest number of cases of infection were registered.
Vice President Mike Pence reported on economic support measures that President Donald Trump discussed on Tuesday with Republican lawmakers. Among the proposed measures are exemption from payroll taxes and paid leave for employees of small and medium-sized businesses.
“He [the President] talked about a set of economic support measures, he called for an exemption from the payroll tax,” Pence said, adding that the President also wants to help small and medium-sized business owners pay for vacations for their employees.
