Washington to attract National Guard during protests

Supporters of trump’s plan to hold a rally on the congressional vote’s backdrop on the certification of victory for Biden.

The US capital has mobilized the National Guard ahead of planned protests by President Donald Trump supporters in Washington, timed to coincide with a vote in Congress to approve Joe Biden’s election victory.

Trump supporters plan to hold rallies in Washington on Tuesday and Wednesday, in a bid to bolster Trump’s claims of widespread election fraud.

The Department of Defense said the District of Columbia National Guard would assist in connection with the expected protests this week. At the same time, the military personnel will not be armed and will not wear bulletproof vests.

The guard will be used to manage traffic and provide other assistance.
