Virgin Galactic unveils new VSS Imagine spacecraft

Virgin Galactic has recently announced its new aircraft called the VSS Imagine.

VSS Imagine is a spacecraft that is planned to be used for tourist suborbital flights. It is similar to the previous VSS Enterprise model that crashed in 2014. At the same time, the novelty is distinguished by a mirror color (protects against overheating) and a modular arrangement of devices inside. This makes VSS Imagine easier to maintain and improve in the future.

The first air tests of the spacecraft will begin this summer at the spaceport in New Mexico. VSS Imagine are going to be dropped from the carrier aircraft Scaled Composites White Knight Two at an altitude of 13-15 km. After that, the ship will have to land on its own. If the tests are successful, the VSS Imagine will be able to make its first commercial flight as early as 2022.

Virgin Galactic is an American space company (competitor to SpaceX). It is part of the international conglomerate Virgin Group, created by British businessman Richard Branson.
