Van Gogh painting sold at auction for $39.2 million

The artist wrote ‘Le pont de Trinquetaille’ in one of the most productive periods of his work.

A painting by the Dutch impressionist Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890’Le pont de Trinquetaille’ sold on Thursday for over $39 million at Christie’s auction in New York. The auction is broadcast on the auction house’s website.

The cost of this lot was $34 million, but taking into account all the additional payments, the new owner of the painting will have to pay $39.29 million for the canvas.

As noted by Christie’s, Van Gogh painted this picture in one of the most productive periods of his work. The work will be exhibited at the Art Institute of Detroit from 2022 to 2023.
