USA to test equipment for tracking hypersonic missile launches on ISS

The US Space Development Agency is going to test equipment for tracking hypersonic missile launches on the ISS.

We are talking about the Prototype Infrared Payload equipment: it works in the infrared range and will be aboard the American Northrop Grumman Cygnus cargo ship, which will fly to the station in July.

Representatives of the agency believe that this way they will be able to collect the data necessary for the development of equipment for detecting launches of hypersonic and ballistic missiles.

In the future, this equipment is planned to be installed on low-orbit missile attack warning satellites.

In June 2020, Northrop Grumman received a $ 13.8 million contract from the Space Development Agency for this experiment.
