US envoy meets with Maduro’s representative

It is reported that the meeting between Richard Grenell and Jorge Rodriguez discussed the peaceful departure of the President of Venezuela from power.

A senior envoy from the Donald Trump administration met secretly with a representative of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro in September to negotiate Maduro’s peaceful departure from power, but no agreement was reached.

This was reported on Wednesday by three sources familiar with the matter.

Richard Grenell, the former acting director of national intelligence and former US Ambassador to Germany, met with Maduro’s close ally Jorge Rodriguez in Mexico City, sources said.

According to one of the sources, Maduro’s representative showed some interest in finding a solution but made it clear that there is a desire to wait for the US elections’ results.

It is not known how the talks were organized, but the source said that no further meetings are planned.

There was no comment from the White House or the State Department.
