US Department of energy: Nord stream-2 will strengthen Russia’s influence on EU foreign policy

The head of Department Rick Perry opposed the use of energy to force the country

The US opposes the construction of the Nord stream – 2 gas pipeline, which, according to Washington, will strengthen Russia’s influence on the foreign policy of the EU countries. This statement was made on Thursday by US energy Minister Rick Perry during the business forum on energy in Brussels.

“We oppose the use of energy to force countries. We remain reliable gas suppliers. Therefore, we think that getting gas from the US is a very attractive alternative for European countries. For the same reasons, we oppose the construction of Nord stream 2, as well as the Turkish stream, ” he said.

According to him, “11 European countries depend on Russian gas up to 75% of total imports.” “This project will allow Russia to get even more leverage over European foreign policy,” Perry said.

The Nord stream -2 project involves the construction of two gas pipelines with a total capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from the coast of Russia through the Baltic Sea to Germany.
