US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) seized 2,000 “fake Apple AirPods” flying from Hong Kong to Nevada at John F Kennedy International Airport in New York.
The department shared information about its “victory” on the official website, but the curiosity of the situation is that the headphones turned out to be not fake AirPods, but the original OnePlus Buds. Although they look like an Apple product, they are definitely not a copy of them. The press release says that if such a batch of headphones were original, then its cost would be $398 thousand. In fact, OnePlus earbuds in the US cost $79 per unit. Consequently, the price of a batch of 2000 pieces is $158 thousand.
By the way, OnePlus has already asked the US Customs to return the goods. The manufacturer has all licenses and certificates for it.
We will remind, OnePlus Buds presented in July along with the OnePlus Nord smartphone. They have 13.4mm drivers, three microphones, Bluetooth 5.0, Dolby Atmos for surround sound, and IPX4 splash and dust resistance. The earbuds support gestures and fast charging. They work from one charge up to 30 hours (with a case).
