US air regulator to conduct the environmental assessment at SpaceX test site in Texas

The company plans to apply for licenses for suborbital and orbital launches of its Starship spacecraft.

The US Federal aviation administration announced its intention to start an environmental assessment at the launch complex used by SpaceX Corporation in the Boca Chica area (Texas).

“SpaceX has notified the Federal aviation administration (FAA) that it plans to apply for licenses for suborbital and orbital launches of its Starship spacecraft, using the [super heavy] launch vehicle Super Heavy, from the Boca Chica test site (Texas). The proposed change in Starship/Super Heavy operations < … > requires additional environmental expertise,” the regulator said in a statement.

The reusable Starship spacecraft is designed for flights to Mars.
