U.S. seismologists mistakenly reported an earthquake in western Canada

The warning was created by an automatic system and manually deleted, the Geological Survey noted.

A failure in the U.S. Geological Survey website system caused an erroneous message about a strong earthquake in Canada. This was announced on Monday by American seismologists.

“An automatic system mistakenly created this warning [about an earthquake]. It was quickly confirmed as erroneous and manually deleted,” the message says.

Earlier, the Geological Survey on its website published a message about a recorded earthquake of magnitude 6.5 in the western Canadian province of British Columbia.
