Two Capitol police officers are suing Trump

Two Capitol police officers are suing former US President Donald Trump over the physical and emotional trauma they sustained during the Capitol storming in Washington on January 6.

“This is a lawsuit to pay damages to US Capitol police officers for physical and emotional injuries caused by the unlawful behaviour of the accused Donald Trump, who incites the riots on January 6, 2021, by his supporters who tried to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election,” the statement said.

Two police officers – James Blassingame and Sidney Hamby – argue that Trump has been rallying the “rebels” for months with baseless allegations of electoral fraud, which later escalated into the Capitol storming.

“Both US Capitol police officers showed up for duty on January 6, 2021, unaware that they would soon be targeted by Trump supporters,” the lawsuit says.

They said the protesters used chemical sprays against them, which caused burns to their eyes, throat and skin. In addition to physical injuries, Blassingame said he faced depression following the January events.

The police are demanding damages in excess of 75 thousand dollars for each.
