Turkish firefighters and specialists of specialized services have taken control of almost all the forest fires that have raged in the country over the past week. This was announced on Tuesday by the press service of the Turkish presidential administration on Twitter.
“Out of 154 forest fires that have occurred in our country in the last six days, our country has taken control of 146 as a result of the mobilization of efforts,” the administration said in a statement. The authorities provide these data as of 15: 30 on August 3.
Despite the successful localization of most of the fire areas, fires are still continuing near Marmaris and Bodrum in Mugla province, in the forests of Manavgat and Alanya in Antalya province, in Adana province. However, there is no danger for residential areas and tourist sites now. Thousands of hectares of forest were burned.
In turn, on Tuesday, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan thanked Russian Leader Vladimir Putin and leaders of some other countries for their support and assistance to the republic in the fight against forest fires. Three Russian Be-200 amphibious aircraft, which Turkey rents from the Russian Federation and the pilots, were involved in the measures to extinguish the fire.
Powerful forest fires began in the republic six days ago. They covered a number of areas on the coast where resorts are located, including in the provinces of Antalya and Mugla. It was reported that two hotels were evacuated, as well as several hundred residential buildings in the coastal zone. Firefighters are still trying to cope with the disaster in a number of areas, but there is practically no danger for settlements anymore. According to the information of the Turkish Emergency Management Department, the number of victims of the natural disaster has reached eight, more than 850 people were injured.
