Turkey will not extend the pause in the operation “Source of peace” in Syria

According to a source of Habertürk TV channel, on October 22, the Turkish army will continue to clear the area of mines and will expand the zone of control.

The Turkish armed forces do not plan to extend the temporary ceasefire in the framework of operation “Source of peace” in Northern Syria. On Tuesday, the Habertürk TV channel reported, citing statements by representatives of the security forces.

The pause in hostilities ends on the evening of October 22 after 120 hours of the moratorium, which Turkey and the United States agreed on October 17. From now on, according to the source of the TV channel, the army will continue to clear the area of mines and will expand the zone of control. At the same time, all members of the armed groups that will remain in this zone after time will be eliminated.

Ankara is referring in this case to the armed formations of the “people’s self-defense forces” of the Syrian Kurds, which it recognizes as a terrorist organization.

Meanwhile, the representative of the Ministry of defense of Turkey Colonel Nadide Shebnem Aktop on Tuesday said at a briefing that in recent days from the zone of operation “left 136 vehicles” with members of Kurdish formations. “The Turkish army is constantly monitoring and reconnaissance in the region with the help of aircraft, drones, radars, thermal imagers. The Turkish armed forces fully comply with the conditions of the temporary ceasefire. On the part of the Kurdistan Workers ‘party and the People’s self-defense forces, 42 violations have been recorded at the moment, which was immediately reported to the US,” the TV channel quotes the Colonel.
