On the eve, the US again warned Turkey about the “real and negative consequences” of the purchase of Russian weapons systems.
Turkey on Wednesday urged the United States to avoid steps that could harm bilateral relations.
This statement was made after the representative of the state Department again warned that Ankara will face “real and negative consequences” of the purchase of Russian S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems.
The representative of the Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the comments of the representative of the state Department Morgan Ortagus, made on Tuesday, do not correspond to the spirit and content of the talks of the presidents of the two countries at the G20 summit in June.
“We invite the American side to avoid wrong steps that exclude diplomacy and dialogue that will harm relations,” Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Axoy said, adding that Ankara has not yet received a response to its proposal to establish a working group to study the consequences of the purchase of S-400 complexes.
Turkey may be excluded from the program of production and procurement of F-35 fighters and face other US sanctions if it will still be delivered S-400 systems.
