US President-elect Biden may take a tougher stance against Ankara in the field of defense.
Turkey is ready to discuss US concerns about Russian s-400 complexes’ technical compatibility and American-made F-35 fighter jets, Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Thursday.
US President-elect Joe Biden is expected to take a tougher stance on Turkey than Donald Trump, especially when it comes to foreign and defense policy and the domestic human rights situation in Turkey.
“We are ready to consider US concerns about the compatibility of the S-400 and F-35 fighter systems,” Akar said.
“The security of F-35 technology is as important to Turkey as it is to the United States,” he added, noting that the proposal to create a joint working group still stands.
Akar said that Ankara continues to prepare and test S-400 systems, which “will be used in the same way as the Russian S-300 systems that are used by some NATO members.”
