Trump’s talks with Kim Jong-UN ended without an agreement

In the capital of Vietnam held talks between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-UN. The leader of the DPRK said that the second meeting with the US President would not have taken place if he did not want the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula. However, the summit ended ahead of schedule and the two leaders were unable to reach an agreement.

The White House said that the talks between the two leaders ended without any agreements. No agreement was reached on the main issue of nuclear disarmament. Nevertheless, the meeting is assessed by Washington as good and constructive.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders told reporters that the summit ended ahead of schedule. Tuples of Trump and Kim Jong-UN drove away from the hotel, where two days negotiations were held. The joint statement was also not made public. In addition, the joint lunch was canceled.

How were the negotiations held

The first round of talks between the leaders of the United States and North Korea in Hanoi was held in hotel “Metropol” yesterday. The second — main-day of the summit began on Thursday morning with a tete-a-tete meeting. “Today we will sit at the talks and hold a wonderful dialogue,” trump showed optimism at the beginning of the meeting. And he stressed that he was not going to hurry.

“From the very beginning I said that the speed [of reaching an agreement with the DPRK] is not so important for me. I very much appreciate the absence of nuclear missile tests, and any missiles. Really appreciate it,” Trump was quoted by FreeNews. According to the American President, it is much more important for him and Kim Jong-UN to conclude the “right deal”.

Kim Jong-UN supported the optimistic mood of Trump. Answering the journalist’s question whether he was sure of the deal, he said through an interpreter that he could not say that he was pessimistic. “I have a feeling that there will be good results,” the leader of the DPRK added.

This may be the first time Kim Jong-UN has answered a question from a foreign journalist, CNN said on Twitter.

“There must be some people watching us have a great time, like it’s a scene from a fantasy movie. We have already done so much, and it is time to show it,” Kim Jong — UN added.

During the talks, the leaders of the United States and North Korea took a short break to stroll through the green courtyard of the hotel by the pool. When they reached the journalists, one of the reporters asked Kim Jong-UN if he wanted denuclearization.

“If I wasn’t ready to do this, I wouldn’t be here right now,” he replied.

“This should be the best answer you’ve ever heard,” Trump approved the remark of Kim Jong-UN.

Kim Jong-UN did not specify exactly how the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula will take place, but said that he discussed this topic with the American leader.

For the first time words about possible denuclearization were made at the first meeting of the US President and the North Korean leader in June 2018 in Singapore, but since then there has not been much progress in the negotiations between Washington and Pyongyang, Reuters recalls.

North Korea has not tested nuclear weapons or ballistic missiles since late 2017.

The US has previously stated that until success is achieved in the negotiations on denuclearization, the US sanctions against the DPRK will not be lifted.
At a meeting in Hanoi, Trump said that the DPRK can come out of isolation and become an economically developed country if the deal is concluded.
Earlier, Washington said that North Korea should unilaterally abandon its nuclear weapons before it can talk about any easing of sanctions. This condition categorically does not suit the North Korean side.
