Trump’s lawyers consider impeachment “interference with elections”

Lawyers for US President Donald Trump during a speech in the Senate on the impeachment case of the head of state said that the removal of the president would create a “very dangerous” precedent. It is reported by Reuters with reference to the speech of the head of the line of defense of Trump Pat Sipollone.

According to the defense, advocating for Trump to be barred from running in the next election, Democrats carry out “the most massive intervention in the elections in American history” and deprive voters of the right to express their attitude to Trump in the November 3, 2020 elections.

Such actions are in violation of the United States Constitution, Cipollone emphasized.

Earlier it was reported that Trump’s lawyers began representing the defense position in the Senate impeachment trial.

A scandal erupted in the United States after an anonymous informant announced Trump’s pressure on Ukrainian leader Vladimir Zelensky to persuade the Ukrainian authorities to investigate Hunter Biden, the son of former vice president Joe Biden, in exchange for financial and military assistance. In December 2019, the House of Representatives trumped impeachment of Trump on two counts – abuse of power and obstruction of the Senate.
