Trump: the US “blocked the way” to the coronavirus from China

The White House said that the US has offered assistance to Beijing in the fight against the outbreak, but this offer has not yet been accepted.

President Donald Trump said the US has “blocked the path” of the coronavirus from China, while officials in San Francisco confirmed the ninth case of the disease in the US.

“We have offered to help China, but we cannot allow thousands of people to come here who may have this problem, the coronavirus,” Trump said in an interview.

“We will see what happens next, but we have blocked the path [to the virus],” the President added.

Meanwhile, officials in San Francisco reported that a woman who arrived from China’s Wuhan in late January was diagnosed with a coronavirus, making it the ninth confirmed case of the disease in the United States.

Starting Sunday, American citizens who were in China in the previous 14 days are taken to one of the eight US airports for additional inspection. American citizens who have visited Hubei province, where the epidemic began, will be required to undergo a 14-day quarantine. Experts say that the incubation period of the coronavirus is 14 days.

Most non-US citizens who visited China in the previous two weeks will be banned from entering the US. An exception will be made for the next of kin of American citizens or holders of a residence permit in the United States, as well as members of flight crews.

Some countries, including the United States, have closed their borders to foreigners coming from China, prompting complaints from Chinese authorities.
