Trump said he was ready to win the war in Afghanistan for a week

“I could win this war in a week. I just don’t want to kill 10 million people,” Trump said.

The US President confirmed that he has certain plans for Afghanistan and he is ready to ensure victory in the war, but by other methods. “We have a plan to win the war… We’ve been fighting in Afghanistan for 19 years, and it’s ridiculous,” said the owner of the White House. He recalled that now the US military performs rather police functions, however, this work does not satisfy Washington.

Trump noted that he counts on Pakistan’s support in the Afghan conflict.

US President Donald Trump has previously stated that US troops will withdraw from Afghanistan only if it is possible to reach an agreement on the settlement of the conflict. In early February, he added that the US military can return to Afghanistan and Syria if necessary. The Pentagon is negotiating with the Taliban on a settlement in the country. An agreement was signed in January at the talks, according to which foreign forces will leave Afghanistan 18 months after the agreement on ending the conflict is signed.

The US military campaign in Afghanistan began on October 2001, as part of the global fight against terrorism, which was launched after the September 11 attacks. Together with the US, several countries are involved in the war — the contingent was sent to Afghanistan by the UK, Germany, Turkey and a number of other NATO countries and partners.
