Trump removed from the post of Inspector General of the intelligence community

Michael Atkinson passed on an informant’s message to Congress that triggered the impeachment of the President earlier this year.

President Donald Trump has officially notified the intelligence committees of the firing of Michael Atkinson, the inspector general of the US intelligence community. This is stated in the letters sent by the President to the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Michael Atkinson informed Congress of a whistleblower’s report that prompted the impeachment of the President earlier this year. The decision to remove him from the office will take effect in 30 days.
In the letter, the President explained the reason for removing the inspector General from office: trump “no longer” has full confidence in Atkinson. The President will name the person who will be appointed to the position currently held by Atkinson “later.”

The democratic leadership in Congress immediately criticized the President for this decision.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi called Atkinson’s firing a disgrace, calling the President’s actions “gross abuse of a patriot, who has faithfully fulfilled his duty to protect the Constitution and our national security, as required by the law and his oath of office.”

“Michael Atkinson is a conscientious man who has served our nation for almost two decades,” said Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer. According to Schumer, Atkinson showed himself as a patriot who “showed courage by revealing the truth” about the actions of the President, who, according to Democrats, tried to pressure the Ukrainian authorities to investigate the company Burisma, on the Board of Directors of which was Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, who claims to participate in the November presidential election.

One of the initiators of the impeachment, intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff, called Trump’s decision to fire Michael Atkinson “another blatant attempt by the President to destroy the independence of the intelligence community and take retaliatory measures against those who dared to expose presidential wrongdoing.”
