Trump reacted to the Russian-Ukrainian exchange of prisoners

The US President congratulated the leadership of both countries.

President Donald Trump called “very good news” the long-awaited exchange of prisoners between Ukraine and Russia. The President tweeted about it.
“Russia and Ukraine have just exchanged a large number of prisoners. Very good news, perhaps the first giant step towards peace. Congratulations to both countries!”- wrote Donald Trump.

Statements on the exchange of prisoners have been issued by international organizations and political leaders.

Kurt Volcker, the US special representative for Ukraine, expressed hope for further prisoner exchanges, a ceasefire in the Donbas and progress toward full Minsk implementation.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the exchange a “sign of hope.”

Representatives of the G-7 countries also welcomed the release of 35 Ukrainians from Russian prisons.

The exchange of prisoners between Russia and Ukraine began on the morning of September 7. The plane of the special flight group “Russia” with the Russians on board landed in Moscow. Around the same time, a plane with Ukrainian prisoners landed at Boryspil airport. The exchange took place according to the formula “35 to 35.”
