US President Donald Trump claims that the United States has already responded to China’s sanctions.
“We have already answered,” Trump said in response to a related question at a press conference.
China has previously announced that it has decided to impose sanctions on 11 US officials in response to sanctions on Hong Kong, including Senators Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz.
In turn, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised to respond to the sanctions.
“You can be sure that the US will appreciate them, answer them, and help the Communist Party understand that action against America and Americans cannot be taken without President Trump answering them,” Pompeo told Newsmax.
Earlier, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on 11 high-ranking officials in mainland China and Hong Kong. The list includes the head of the Hong Kong administration Carrie Lam, the chief of the Hong Kong police Chris Tan, the minister of security John Lee, the minister of justice Teresa Cheng, the director of the Hong Kong and Macao office of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China Xia Baolong, the head of the PRC central government office in Hong Kong Luo Huining and others.
