A “foreign policy veteran,” US Ambassador to Germany Richard Grenell will head the American intelligence community.
President Donald Trump has appointed Richard Grenell, US Ambassador to Germany, as Acting Director of National Intelligence. The US President personally announced this in a tweet.
“I am pleased to announce that our distinguished Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, will become acting Director of National Intelligence. Rick represented our country very well [in Germany], and I look forward to working with him,” Trump said in a tweet.
The President thanked Joe Maguire, the current Acting Director of National Intelligence, “for the excellent work he has done,” and noted that Maguire will continue to work with the President while fulfilling other responsibilities within the administration. Trump did not specify Maguire’s new position.
….for the wonderful job he has done, and we look forward to working with him closely, perhaps in another capacity within the Administration!

According to Reuters, Grenell, considered a staunch supporter of trump’s policies, replaces Maguire, who has served as the “king of intelligence” – as American politicians have nicknamed this position – since August last year.
Grenell, “an experienced veteran in foreign policy matters with sharp elbows,” writes Reuters, as a result of this decision will enter the President’s inner circle. Although Grenell has a reputation for being tough, trump values his loyalty to Him, which is especially important given the head of the state’s skeptical attitude to the intelligence community.
