The President admits this development but fears negative consequences for national air carriers.
President Donald Trump said that he is considering stopping domestic flights to the epicenters of the spread of the coronavirus in the United States to contain the ongoing epidemic, which, according to some forecasts, could kill at least 100,000 Americans. The head of state said this during a daily press briefing at the White House.
“We are certainly considering this measure; but once you do, you will destroy a much-needed industry,” Trump said, referring to air carriers.
Presumably, the restrictions may affect flights to the cities most affected by the coronavirus outbreak: New York, New Orleans, and Detroit.
“We are thinking about it,” Trump said, referring to the ban on domestic flights, the number of which has already been significantly reduced as a result of a sharp drop in demand for air tickets.
While the President has repeatedly stated his desire to reduce the number of migrants entering the United States from Latin America, on Wednesday he acknowledged that the United States needs migrant workers who can work on farms on special labor visas.
“I made a promise to [American] farmers that they [migrants] would continue to come,” the President said.
During the press briefing, Donald Trump also made it clear that undocumented immigrants, many of whom came to the US from Latin American countries, will not be able to count on financial assistance from the state, which most American families should soon receive.
Trump allowed the possibility of a new deal between Moscow and Riyadh
The President also said that on Friday he will hold a meeting with the heads of major oil companies. Trump wants to discuss ways to help with industry leaders ravaged by falling gasoline prices, declining fuel demand and a price war between Saudi Arabia and Russia.
Trump added that he recently spoke with the leaders of Russia and Saudi Arabia, calling on both countries to conclude a deal and” within a few days” put an end to the price war – to agree to reduce production and restore oil prices.
“I’m going to meet with oil companies on Friday. I’m going to meet with independent oil producers-also on Friday or Saturday. Maybe on Sunday. We will have many meetings on this issue,” the President said.
“The oil industry is destroyed all over the world,” Trump continued. – This is very bad for Russia; this is very bad for Saudi Arabia. I mean, this is very bad for both countries. I think they will make a deal.”
