The document on the financing of the government should include funds to ensure the security of the state border, the head of the White House noted.
The US President Donald Trump is ready to work with representatives of the Democratic Party in Congress to adopt a document on the financing of the government, which partially ceased its work 12 days ago. The head of the White House wrote about this in his Twitter, stressing that such document should include funds to ensure the security of the state border.
“Today an important meeting was held with the leaders of the Republican and Democratic Parties in the Congress. Parties must work together to approve a budget that will include provisions for the protection of the state and its people – this is the primary and most important responsibility of the government. I remain ready and willing to work with Democrats for the conduct of the bill, which would imply the protection of our borders, support for border guards and troops, as well as ensure the safety of America. Let’s do it!” Trump said.
Earlier, the Republican leader in the House of Representatives Kevin McCarthy told reporters that on Friday representatives of both parties in Congress will continue negotiations with the head of state on the restoration of government funding and border protection. At the same time, the leader of the Republicans in the Senate of the US Congress Mitch McConnell did not rule out that consultations on this matter and, accordingly, a partial suspension of the work of the government can be delayed for weeks.
On Thursday, the Congress of the 116th convocation, formed following the results of the midterm elections held in November, starts its work. The Democrats gained a majority in the House of Representatives, but the Republicans retained leadership in the Senate.
Since December 22, in the US partially suspended the work of the Federal government due to lack of budget funds. This was due to the fact that the Republicans and Democrats in the US Congress has not yet been able to agree on the parameters of the state budget, in which Trump and the Republicans in an ultimatum want to include funds for the construction of a physical barrier on the border with Mexico. Democrats, in turn, declare that they will never approve the allocation of money from the Federal Treasury.
