The US President Donald Trump is ready for new fighting in Syria, but Washington hopes that this will not happen. The US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo said it on Thursday, speaking at the American University in Cairo.
“Trump is ready to take military action in Syria again, but we hope that he will not have to do it,” the diplomat said.
Pompeo also said that the US troops will leave Syria, but the US will continue to fight with the militants of the “Islamic state”.
“We are truly committed to preventing the spread of ISIS… we will continue to do so, but in Syria it will be different. President Trump has decided to withdraw. We’ll do it,” Pompeo said.
The US President Donald Trump on December 19 announced the victory over the militants of the “Islamic state” in Syria and announced the withdrawal of the US troops from the Arab Republic. It was supposed to take 30 days. Later it became known that this period will be extended.
