Trump has unlocked military aid to Ukraine

WASHINGTON – US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had unblocked military aid to Ukraine only because of the requests of Republican Senator Rob Portman (from Ohio) and other lawmakers, and called on Europe to strengthen support for Kyiv.

“Rob Portman called me and said,” Please unlock the money [military aid to Ukraine].” This was the only reason [for the decision to unblock military aid to Kyiv]. I gave the money because Rob Portman and other lawmakers asked for it,” the US leader said during a joint press conference with Finnish President Sauli Niinisto at the White House.

“I hate it when [the US] is the only country that gives money,” Trump said, adding that European countries” should pay more as an aid to Ukraine.”
