Trump made this statement against the background of the decision of Washington and Ankara to suspend the military operation “Source of peace,” initiated by the Turkish side on October 9. The agreement to suspend the operation for 120 hours was reached during a visit to the Turkish capital by US Vice President Michael Pence. During this period, the Kurdish people’s protection Units will have to withdraw from the area of operation in Northern Syria. After they leave the zone, Turkey will complete its military operation.

In Damascus, the US and Turkey called the agreement on the establishment of a truce vague. At the same time, the Kurdish “Syrian democratic forces” agreed with Turkey’s decision to suspend the military operation.
