The administration of US President Donald Trump has proposed to halve the number of accepted refugees in the next financial year (from October 1). This is stated in the report to Congress on the website of the US State Department.
It is expected that next year the United States will take 18 thousand people instead of 30 thousand in the past. The proposal has now been sent to Congress for consideration. “At the heart of the Trump administration’s foreign policy is a commitment to making decisions based on reality, not desires, and achieving optimal results based on specific facts,” the document said.
In September, it was reported that the US Supreme court had allowed asylum restrictions to be imposed on migrants who failed to meet certain conditions. It was noted that the court’s decision removes obstacles to the introduction of restrictions in obtaining the status of a legal migrant. Thus, refugees who entered the United States from third countries, to obtain official asylum will first have to get a waiver from the States through which lay their way.
