Trump called the closure of schools due to COVID-19 “political nonsense”

US President Donald Trump called the closure of schools due to coronavirus “political nonsense.”

“We must open schools, stop this political nonsense!” – said Trump, speaking at the White House.

According to him, countries such as Germany, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden have already opened schools, and “everything is in order” there. Trump said that his opponents want to score political points at the closing of the schools.

“They don’t want to open them because they think it will help them (in the presidential election) on November 3, but I think it will hinder them on November 3,” Trump said.

Local authorities make decisions about closing and opening schools, and Trump cannot influence them. However, he has already threatened to withhold federal funds for schools if they do not open on time.
