Trump announces the resignation of the US Secretary of Defense

US President Donald Trump said he had dismissed Defense Secretary Mark Esper. Christopher Miller, director of the National Anti-Terrorism Center, became the acting head of the Pentagon.

“I am pleased to announce that Christopher Miller, the distinguished director of the National Counterterrorism Center (unanimously approved by the Senate), will immediately take over as acting secretary of defense,” Trump tweeted.

“Chris will do a great job [with this job]! Mark Esper is retired. I would like to thank him for the work [done], ” added the current head of state.

On November 9, the online edition Axios, citing sources, said that Trump is considering the possibility of re-running for the presidency of the United States in the next elections in 2024. In 2024 he will be 78 years old. The portal notes that such conversations indicate that the head of state understands that he lost the last elections to his opponent, Democrat Joe Biden.

Earlier, NBC, citing sources, said that US Defense Minister Mark Esper had prepared a letter of resignation. According to the interlocutors of the publication, the minister is in a strained relationship with Donald Trump, and the situation may really end in a resignation.
