Insiders say that Tom Hanks, after reading the script for Pinocchio, asked director Robert Zemeckis to play the role of Geppetto, the creator of Pinocchio. Negotiations are still at an early stage, but the chances that they will end successfully are great. Earlier, when Paul King was appointed director of the picture, Disney expressed wishes that the role would go to Hanks. A change in the director is unlikely to change the studio’s views.
Robert Zemeckis will direct the film based on the classic 1940 Disney cartoon, based on a script he co-wrote with Chris Weitz. The cartoon tells about a revived wooden puppet, which with the help of cricket must prove that it deserves to become a real living boy.
