A technical session of the Westminster magistrates’ court in London in the case of the extradition to the United States of Russian businessman Oleg Tinkov is scheduled for July 13, an official representative of the court told.
Previously, the meeting was scheduled for April 17, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed to a later date. According to the representative of the court, the meeting scheduled for July 13 will be technical; Tinkov himself will not be present at the hearing.
“This will be a meeting with the participation of lawyers from both sides, who will have to determine the further order of consideration of this case,” the source explained.
“Mr. Tinkov’s presence is not required at this stage,” he added.
After determining the schedule of court sessions, substantive hearings will begin, the representative said.
The trial for the extradition of a Russian banker to the United States is being held in London at the request of the US Justice Department, accusing Tinkov of filing a deliberately false tax return. The businessman, who is in London during the trial, faces up to six years in prison.
In early March, Tinkov said that in October last year, he was diagnosed with an acute form of leukemia, and he underwent several courses of chemotherapy. The team of lawyers handles the court case.
