American time magazine revealed the shortlist of contenders for the title of “Person of the year.” The list was announced on NBC News.
According to the editors of the magazine, the title of the most influential person in 2019 can claim:
-Democratic Senator, Chairman of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi;
-Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg;
-The US President Donald Trump;
-American soccer player Megan Rapinoe;
-The Whistleblower who filed a complaint against trump after his phone conversation with Ukrainian counterpart Vladimir Zelensky;
-Chinese President XI Jinping;
-New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern;
-16-year-old Swedish eco-activist Greta Thunberg;
-Protesters in Hong Kong;
-Trump’s personal lawyer Rudolph Giuliani;
For the second year in a row, only Donald Trump was shortlisted from all of the above people or collective images. Last year, he failed to get the title of “Person of the year,” taking second place. It went to a group of journalists who suffered for the truth.
Among those who became “Man of the year” in 2018 were in Saudi journalist, columnist for the Washington Post, Jamal Khashoggi, who was killed in Turkey, reporters Reuters — a 32-year-old Wa Lone and 28-year-old Soe Oo, who received in Myanmar seven years of imprisonment on charges of divulging state secrets while investigating killings of Muslim Rohingya, as well as the chief editor of Rappler Maria Ressa (she covered the news about the fight Rodrigo Duterte against the unwanted regime of Filipinos.
