It has been an unusual summer transfer window this year, as the deadline for summer months is the 5th October for Premier League clubs. So, while basketball fans while be focusing their NBA betting analysis on the finals happening around that weekend, in Europe football fans will be refreshing their clubs pages waiting for new signings.
There have already been some huge moves made during the off-season, with Manchester City bringing in Ferran Torres, Liverpool signing Thiago Alcantara, and Chelsea managing to snap up Timo Werner, Kai Havertz and Hakim Ziyech.
However, there is still time for some of the biggest transfers that have been muted to develop. But, which transfers could we see happen over the final weeks of the summer window?
Jadon Sancho – Manchester United
The summer story that shows no sign of stopping is the one that links Jadon Sancho with a move to Manchester United. In truth, any likelihood of this deal happening is fading with every passing day. Borussia Dortmund have constantly reiterated that the England international isn’t for sale, but he remains United’s number one transfer target.
The story hasn’t changed over the past couple of months, with reports claiming that personal terms will not be an issue.
Still, the biggest problem with the deal is United’s reluctance to pay the £110 million asking price.
This has happened in the past with the Red Devils, as they have refused to pay the asking price for Harry Maguire and Bruno Fernandes, before then bowing to the pressure and matching the price that was set on the player. Time will tell whether history will repeat itself for the third consecutive window.
Kalidou Koulibaly- Manchester City
Manchester City are still reportedly looking for another defender this summer. The Citizens have already brought in Nathan Ake from Bournemouth for £40 million. Nonetheless, there is still a need for another defender judging by the depth that is currently in the City squad in that position.
Aymeric Laporte remains the standout defender for City, but they are in desperate need for a commanding defender to play alongside him.
Questions have been asked about John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi, but neither seems to be the player that will lift City back above Liverpool. The Argentinian looks to be actually on the exit door, with moves to Inter or to Porto on the cards.
Koulibaly has been linked with a move to City for the past couple of years, but any move could be complicated. It has been revealed that there is no relationship between Napoli and City, which could make the move near-impossible.
The relationship between the club has been poor since the summer of 2018 when City believed that they had signed Jorginho only for the Italian midfielder to instead sign for Chelsea. This move looks unlikely, but there is still a chance that it could happen should the Citizens meet the asking price.
Dele Ali – PSG
It isn’t all about players coming to the Premier League, as there could be one very interesting departure from the league should Jose Mourinho get his way. It would seem as though the relationship between Ali and Mourinho has completely broken down, with the English midfielder being dropped from the last two matchday squads.
Mourinho has already indicated that he believes that he has too many players, and he made those comments before bringing in Gareth Bale and Sergio Reguilon.
The manager has typically opted for a 4-3-3 formation throughout his career, and should he opt for that formation again at Tottenham, it’s unlikely that Ali will be able to force his way into the team.
For now, the most likely destination for the Spurs man is Paris Saint-Germain, but there is an indication that the deal is likely to be a loan move. Inter Milan are also reportedly interested.
Here you have it, 3 deals that might happen before 5th of October. Who else are you tipping for a move before the deadline day?
