Theresa May resigns

British Prime Minister Theresa May said she was resigning. It will happen on June 7.

“I will resign as the leader of the Conservative and Unionist party on Friday, June 7,” May said near the official residence on 10 Downing Street.

In recent months, the Prime Minister and Parliament could not come to an agreement and adopt a plan for the country’s exit from the European Union. This was the reason for May’s resignation.

May expressed regret that she could not bring “Brexit” to the end. She also noted: it is in the interests of all that the country is headed by a new person.
The decision to resign May announced after a meeting with foreign and interior Ministers Jeremy hunt and Sajid Javid. The heads of departments expressed concerns about the new plan of the Prime Minister for the UK’s exit from the European Union.

May said that she was the second woman in the post of Prime Minister, but not the last. At the end of her speech, the Prime Minister could not hold back tears: “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the country I love.”
