The women’s Ice Hockey World Championship will be held from August 20 to 31 in Canada

On its official website, the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) announced the new dates of the women’s World Championship – the tournament will be held from August 20 to 31.

The competition was scheduled to occur from May 6 to May 16 in Halifax and Truro, Canada, but was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. The new World Cup dates were approved on Friday by the IIHF board following a conference call with representatives of the participating teams on April 29.

It is reported that the tournament will be held in Canada; the exact venue will be determined later. The IIHF will select new host cities for the World Cup in conjunction with Hockey Canada in the coming weeks.

“Players, teams, Hockey Canada, and the IIHF are in a difficult position due to the sudden cancellation of the tournament. We needed some dates that could be suitable for the teams, as well as provide a comprehensive broadcast, the opportunity for viewers to attend the games,” IIHF head Rene Fasel commented on the council’s decision.

“I would like to thank the IIHF Board, Hockey Canada, and the teams for their contribution and participation in the decision-making process in such a short time. We have passed an important first stage, determining the optimal dates for this event, and now we will move on to the next stage – we will choose a suitable place,” he added.
