This is not the first time Canadian artist The Weeknd has conquered the charts’ top with his hits. Blinding Lights has been on the Billboard Hot 100 in the top 10 for a whole year.
This made the song the longest-running top 10 hits in the entire history of the chart. The previous record-holder in the music industry’s world was rapper Post Malone, who stayed in the top 10 with the hit Circles for 39 weeks.
Since its release, the hit Blinding Lights has been in the top 100 for 65 weeks and in the top ten for 52 weeks. Now the track is rightfully considered one of the main hits of the past year. However, the Grammy Award jury did not consider the performer’s achievements and did not nominate him for any nomination. The Weeknd commented on the situation, calling the ceremony biased and accusing academy members of complicity in the fraud. Other celebrities, including Elton John, supported the artist.
The song itself tells about the hero’s emotional experiences, who broke up with the girl but still misses her. The character rushes about “that very empty and cold city of sins” and turns to the girl he misses. At the end of the song, it becomes clear that he still came to his beloved to say that he will not let her go anymore.
