The Vatican told how Pope Francis reacted to the death of the legendary Argentine football player Diego Maradona.
“The Pope was informed of the death of Diego Maradona. He fondly remembers their meetings. The Pope commemorates Maradona in his prayers, as he did before when he learned about Diego’s health, ”said Vatican spokesman Matteo Bruni, quoted by ESPN.
Diego Maradona’s death became known the day before, November 25. The legendary Argentinian was reported to have died in his home after cardiac arrest.
On November 11, Maradona was discharged from the hospital. The ex-footballer underwent surgery for a subdural hematoma. After discharge, Maradona was taken to the clinic for treatment for alcohol addiction.
