The USA removed Turkey from the program of production of F-35 fighters

Washington promised to take such a step after Ankara acquired Russian anti-aircraft missile systems S-400.

US authorities said on Wednesday about the removal of Turkey from the program for the production of components for the latest American F-35 fighters. Washington has long warned about the consequences that await Ankara in the case of deliveries to Turkey of Russian air defense systems S-400.

The first batch of S-400 systems was delivered to the air force base “Murted” to the North-West of Ankara last Friday. The US for several months tried to prevent the supply of Russian air defense to Turkey, which is part of NATO.

“The United States and other partners in the F-35 program agree to the decision to remove Turkey from the program and start the process of formal exclusion of Turkey from this program,” – said during a press briefing Ellen Lord, US Deputy Defense Minister for procurement and logistics.

According to Lord, the replacement of the supply chain in the production of jet fighters will cost the US $ 500-600 million. Turkey produces more than 900 parts and assemblies required for the F-35 Assembly. Lord said that the production of these parts will be moved from Turkey to the United States.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry called this decision “unfair” and again warned that it would have a negative impact on relations between the two countries.
“Turkey, unfortunately, in connection with this decision will lose jobs and potential economic opportunities,” – said Lord, adding that the total losses of Turkey as a result of such a step could amount to more than 9 billion dollars.
