The Department of transportation ordered to suspend flights to Venezuela. The temporary ban will affect both passenger and cargo flights.
This decision was made at the request of the US Department of homeland security, which stated that the situation in Venezuela threatens the safety of passengers and aircraft crews.
In March, flights to Venezuela were suspended by American Airlines — the last major American airline that regularly flew to the country.
Venezuela has been experiencing a political crisis for several years. It escalated after January 2019. The opposition speaker of Parliament of Venezuela Juan Guaido announced about the illegitimacy of President Nicolas Maduro. The US supported the opposition. In early may, Guaido tried to organize a coup but failed. After the coup attempt, the US aviation authorities ordered the aircraft of American airlines to leave the territory of Venezuela.
