The US withdraws Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch

The US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch until the end of May will be recalled from her post, reports FreeNews with reference to American diplomatic sources.

According to the newspaper, recently Yovanovitch urgently left for Washington for consultations. She has to come to Ukraine again on May 11, and on May 20 finally, return to the USA.

Pending the approval of the new Ambassador, her duties will be performed by the chargé d’affaires, whose candidacy has not yet been determined.

In March, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Yuriy Lutsenko accused Yovanovitch of trying to interfere in the work of the Department. In an interview with the American edition The Hill, he said that during their first meeting Yovanovitch gave him a list of persons who should not be prosecuted. The US State Department called the charges “outright fiction.”

“Ambassador Yovanovitch is completing her three-year diplomatic mission in Kiev in 2019, as planned,” the state Department representative said.
Yovanovitch has been the Ambassador to Ukraine since 2016.
