The US will send an additional group of military personnel to the border with Mexico

Representatives of the military say that the increase is related to the COVID-19 epidemic.

The administration of Donald Trump “very soon” will send 540 military personnel to the border with Mexico to help Federal border guards during the coronavirus pandemic.

This was reported by representatives of the military leadership.

US Army Lieutenant General Laura Richardson told reporters at the Pentagon that the increase is “directly related to COVID-19.”

The military is working with the Department of homeland security and the US Customs and border protection to send additional troops “to help [these agencies] comply with their orders and provide protection from migrants crossing the border with COVID,” said the head of the US Northern Command, air force General Terrence O’Shaughnessy.

Federal authorities have already sent about 5,000 military personnel to the border, who perform duties not related to law enforcement.
