The administration of President Donald Trump intends to increase the number of warships of the US Navy to 355. This was stated by Vice President Michael Pence, speaking on Monday at the naval aviation base in Jacksonville (Florida).
According to Pence, the US government is working with Congress and the leaders of both political parties to the US armed forces “were the most powerful in history.”
The US Vice President also noted that the Navy development program proposed by Trump is the largest in the last 20 years. The draft budget for the new fiscal year contains a request for funds for the purchase of 12 new warships. In the coming years, funds will be allocated for the construction of another 55 ships. “We will bring the US Navy to 355 ships in just over a decade,” Pence promised.
Meanwhile, according to the US strategic research Institute Heritage Foundation, by the end of 2018, the US Navy had 284 warships. According to experts, it is 12 ships more than in 2017.
