The United States is working on creating a prototype of a medium-range missile capable of hitting moving targets on water and land, Free News reports, citing a representative of the US ground forces.
This development should “fill in the gaps” in the range of high-precision weapons with a more extended range of the United States, the publication notes.
The decision to develop a new missile was made based on the results of a study in the field of strategic weapons conducted by the army Futures Command analytical center in New Mexico, said a representative of the US army forces, Robin Mack. According to the results of the study, both short-term and long-term strategies for investing in the development of weapons were recommended, which will allow “comparing with competitors close in level” to the United States, the publication writes.
Earlier, US special representative for arms control, Marshall Billingslea, said in an interview with the Japanese publication “Nikkei” that the US plans to discuss with some Asian countries ways to increase the protection of allies against the growing threat from China, including the possibility of deploying medium-and short-range ground-based missiles.
