The Secretary of state Pompeo spoke by phone with Afghan leaders.
US Secretary of state Mike Pompeo spoke by phone with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani and the new Chairman of the Supreme Council for national reconciliation, Abdullah Abdullah.
State Department spokeswoman Morgan Ortagus reported this on Sunday.
The report said that Pompeo congratulated the two leaders on reaching an agreement on an inclusive system of government in Afghanistan while noting that he regretted the time lost during the political standoff.
The head of American diplomacy reiterated that a political settlement to end the conflict in Afghanistan remains a priority for the United States, and welcomed the commitment of both leaders to immediate action in support of the early start of inter-Afghan negotiations, the report said.
